JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed one of the points discussed in a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, regarding the development of the finalization of tariff negotiations with the United States.
President Prabowo Subianto on Monday afternoon summoned several ministers, namely Coordinating Minister Airlangga, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, and Minister of Investment and Industrialization/CEO Danantara Rosan Perkasa Roeslani to attend a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace.
The limited meeting lasted for more than two hours, then afterwards, President Prabowo left the Presidential Palace for the GBK area, Senayan, to attend the 2025 National Christmas Celebration.
"We discussed the macroeconomic conditions, as well as the progress of negotiations with the United States, maybe others are waiting for tomorrow because tomorrow there will be a retreat," said Airlangga as reported by ANTARA, Monday, January 5.
Airlangga also explained that the current tariff negotiations are entering the final stage of checking and drafting the agreement.
In the next meeting, the negotiation team from the two countries will discuss the points of the agreement in more detail.
The next meeting is scheduled for January 12-19, 2026 in Washington D.C., United States.
"It (the date) is 12-19. It is legal drafting detail," said Airlangga.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga in the last week of December 2025 also met with the United States Representative (USTR) Ambassador Jamieson Greer in Washington D.C., USA.
The meeting was one of the efforts to finalize negotiations regarding import tariffs imposed by the US Government on Indonesia, namely 19 percent.
After meeting Greer, Airlangga explained the next step, which is in the second week of January 2026, namely on January 12-19, a negotiating team from the two countries will conduct a final check of the draft agreement (legal scrubbing and clean-up document). This stage is targeted to be completed within one week.
The next stage, namely in the third week of January 2026, the agreement documents (agreements on reciprocal trade/ATR) are targeted to be completed.
Airlangga stated that in his meeting with Greer, Indonesia and the US had agreed on the substance of the agreement contained in the draft Indonesia-US bilateral trade agreement (ATR).
Airlangga continued that Indonesia is committed to opening market access for United States products, overcoming various non-tariff barriers, strengthening cooperation in the fields of digital trade and technology, national security, and other commercial cooperation.
