JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded the sale of train tickets during the Christmas and New Year 2025/2026 holiday transportation period has reached 3,873,241 tickets as of January 1, 2026.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that her party noted the high mobility of the community during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 transportation.
"As of Thursday, January 1, 2026 at 08.00 WIB, ticket sales for the period from December 18, 2025 to January 4, 2026 have reached 3,873,241 tickets, reflecting the public's enthusiasm in utilizing train transportation services," Anne said in a statement confirmed by Antara, in Jakarta, Thursday, January 1.
Of the total, the sale of long-distance train tickets was recorded at 3,181,654 tickets or 115.2 percent of the capacity of 2,761,048 seats.
Meanwhile, the sale of local train tickets reached 691,587 tickets, equivalent to 92.8 percent of the total 745,056 seats provided.
The occupancy rate of long-distance trains exceeding 100 percent is influenced by the dynamic travel pattern of passengers, i.e. one seat can be used by more than one customer in one travel sequence, along with the activity of boarding and disembarking passengers at various stations.
Meanwhile, Anne continued, on January 1, 2026 until 08.00 WIB, the number of customers who have purchased long-distance and local train tickets in the Java and Sumatra regions was recorded at 190,348 customers.
"This number is still potentially increasing as ticket sales continue until the end of the day," explained Anne.
He said that cumulatively during the period of 18-31 December 2025, KAI had served 3,206,898 customers on long-distance and local train services in various operational areas.
In the same period, Anne added, KAI still applies a 30 percent discount on the commercial economy train tariff which is valid from December 22, 2025 to January 10, 2026, with a total of 1,509,080 seats prepared.
"Until January 1, 2026 at 08.00 WIB, the discounted tickets that have been sold reached 1,366,134 tickets or about 91 percent of the program capacity," said Anne.
Based on departure data during the Christmas and New Year period, the 10 favorite stations of long-distance train customers include Pasarsenen, Yogyakarta, Gambir, Surabaya Pasar Turi, Semarang Tawang, Bandung, Surabaya Gubeng, Purwokerto, Lempuyangan, and Semarang Poncol.
