KAI recorded long-distance train sales of 91.5 percent during Nataru

Long-distance train sales have almost filled capacity during the Nataru holiday (VOI/Mery Handayani).

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI recorded a positive performance in train ticket sales during the 2025 Christmas and New Year 2026 (Nataru) Transportation period. Until Thursday, December 25, 2025, at 08.00 WIB, 91.5 percent of tickets were sold from the total capacity provided.

KAI's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, said that this achievement shows the high interest of the public in using long-distance train services for travel during the holidays this year.

"The sale of long-distance train tickets was recorded as 2,525,134 tickets from a capacity of 2,761,048 seats or equivalent to 91.5 percent."

"This figure reflects public confidence in trains as a reliable mode of transportation during the Nataru period," Anne said in an official statement, Thursday, December 25, 2025.

Overall, said Anne, the total sales of train tickets during Nataru had reached 2,948,025 tickets from a total capacity of 3,506,104 seats provided by KAI for long-distance train services and local trains in the period from December 18, 2025 to January 4, 2026.

"This capacity is prepared to support community mobility for various purposes, ranging from tourist travel, family visits, to economic activities in various areas during the Christmas and New Year holidays," he said.

The high sales of long-distance trains are reflected in a number of relationships with the highest customer volume during the Nataru period, namely:

Anne said that these relationships are the main choice of the community because they connect the center of activity and tourist destinations.

"As well as the destination areas for going home and back during the year-end holidays," he said.

Meanwhile, Anne said, the sale of local train tickets until December 25, 2025 at 08.00 WIB was recorded at 422,891 tickets or 56.8 percent of the total capacity of 745,056 seats.

"Local train sales have different characteristics because the majority of ticket purchases can only be made H-7 before departure. Therefore, the sales figure for local trains is still very dynamic and has the potential to continue to increase closer to the travel day," said Anne.

Based on data, continued Anne, the movement of train customers during the Christmas and New Year's Transportation period showed an increasing trend at the beginning of the period.

The number of customers recorded an increase from 157,301 customers on December 18, 2025, continued to increase in the following days until reaching 233,671 customers on December 23, 2025, and a peak of 259,239 customers on December 24, 2025.

"After the peak of the flow leading up to Christmas Day, the volume of customers moves dynamically in line with changes in people's travel patterns, including tourist travel and the return flow that is expected to increase again at the end of the holiday period," he said.
