JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that trade negotiations between Indonesia and the United States (US) have yielded an important agreement, namely the granting of reciprocal tariff exemptions for a number of Indonesian export commodities.

According to Airlangga, the results of the reciprocal trade tariff negotiations conducted with the United States Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Jamieson Greer agreed that cocoa and palm oil commodities were included in the list of products that were exempt from the imposition of tariffs.

He explained that all discussions in this negotiation refer to the agreement that was reached on July 22, 2025.

Previously, this trade agreement had also resulted in a decision to reduce the United States' reciprocal tariff on Indonesia from 32 percent to 19 percent.

Airlangga added that the United States had provided tariff relaxation for several of Indonesia's flagship products, including palm oil, coffee, cocoa, and tea.

"Indonesia also gets special tariffs for Indonesia's export flagship products such as coconut oil, palm oil, coffee, cocoa, and others," he said in a press conference following the negotiations in person from Washington, Tuesday, December 23.

He emphasized that the main objective of this agreement is to create a balance of market access between the two countries, both for US products entering Indonesia and vice versa.

On the other hand, Airlangga conveyed that the United States also hopes to gain access to critical mineral commodities from Indonesia.

However, Airlangga ensured that the agreement would not limit Indonesia's national policy space.

According to him, the cooperation contained in this agreement is commercial and strategic, and is designed to provide balanced economic benefits for Indonesia and the United States.

He added that this agreement will later be signed directly by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and US President Donald Trump.

"After all the technical processes are completed, it is expected that before the end of January this document will be prepared to be officially signed by President Prabowo and President of the United States Mr. Donald Trump," he explained.

Airlangga added that currently, the United States is arranging the right meeting schedule for the two leaders.
