JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that the continued process of trade tariff negotiations between Indonesia and the United States (US) showed positive developments.
According to him, the meeting with the United States Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Jamieson Greer has resulted in a number of important agreements that are the basis for the continuation of negotiations between the two countries.
Airlangga explained that the meeting was a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's direction to accelerate the completion of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) documents between Indonesia and the US.
"The meeting went well, the main issues and technical issues were discussed in this meeting," said Airlangga at a press conference on the results of the negotiations directly from Washington, Tuesday, December 23.
In addition, he also appreciated the progress of negotiations which had reached an understanding on a number of crucial issues in the text of the agreement.
Airlangga emphasized that the discussion was carried out by prioritizing common interests, where Indonesia and the United States both conveyed their respective priorities.
"All substantive issues that have been regulated in the ART document can be agreed upon by both parties, both major issues and technical issues that will be resolved, adjusted to the language in the legal drafting and the subsequent technical process," he explained.
He emphasized that one of the important results of the agreement was the acceleration of the drafting of the tariff agreement with the target of being completed before the end of January 2026.
"It was also agreed on the framework timetable of the Substantive Agreement of the ART, in which in the second week of January 2026, the Indonesian and United States technical teams will resume technical meetings for legal drafting and clean up of documents, which are targeted to be completed within a tentative one week time between 12 to 19 (January 2026)," he said.
