JAKARTA - In the spirit of solidarity and mutual cooperation to help one another, BRI Group as part of Danantara held an activity entitled "Unite the Steps for Sumatra" as a humanitarian action for people affected by natural disasters in various regions of Sumatra. This activity is also part of the series of activities for the 130th anniversary of BRI which fell on December 16, 2025 and was carried out with simplicity, and was full of values of concern and social values.
The "Unite the Steps for Sumatra" activity was held at BRI's Head Office, Jakarta, on Sunday (21/12/2025), and was attended by BRI's President Commissioner Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, BRI's President Director Hery Gunardi along with the Board of Commissioners and Directors of the BRI Group. The activity confirms the commitment of the BRI Group management to go down directly and move together in humanitarian action for disaster-affected communities.
The activity, which took place from 06.00 to 10.00 WIB, was also attended by 5,000 participants, including a healthy walking activity that followed the route with a total distance of 5 km or an estimated 7,500 steps. Through the conversion of each step into a donation of Rp. 1,300, this activity is projected to be able to collect up to Rp. 50 billion in aid funds to be channeled into the development of post-disaster infrastructure needed by the community.
The commitment to assistance for post-disaster infrastructure recovery will be carried out through the BRI Peduli program which is focused on affected areas. In Aceh Province, as one of the main affected areas, BRI is preparing a program to renovate educational facilities, health centers, public services, as well as repair clean water and sanitation systems. Meanwhile, in North Sumatra Province, BRI will renovate elementary/state schools and health centers that were affected by floods/landslides, as well as repair clean water and sanitation facilities. As for the West Sumatra Province, recovery efforts are focused on repairing and renovating school classrooms, first-level health facilities, as well as rehabilitating drainage and neighborhood road access. In addition, assistance will also be provided for the construction of temporary housing, especially in Aceh and North Sumatra.

It is recorded that, until December 18, 2025, the BRI Group has carried out 40 emergency response actions in various disaster-affected areas, supported by 5 emergency disaster posts. The posts serve as a coordination center for volunteers, distribution of assistance, and humanitarian services to ensure that assistance can be quickly and accurately targeted. The assistance distributed is focused on meeting the urgent needs of affected communities, which includes 3,250 ready-to-eat food packages, 63,500 basic food packages, 700 survival kit packages, and 1,680 units of mattresses and blankets. To support the health and sanitation aspects in the affected areas, the BRI Group also distributed 23 water trucks, 3,800 medicine packages, and 5,800 units of hygiene equipment. Meanwhile, to facilitate the mobilization of assistance in flood-affected areas, 2 rubber boats were also deployed. In total, the benefits of this program have reached 70,550 affected people with a total value of assistance reaching Rp. 11.68 billion.
