JAKARTA - PT Mitra Murni Perkasa (MMP) and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Mitsui) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish strategic collaborations in the marketing sector of high-grade nickel MONEY products as well as exploring strategic investment potential.

Through this MoU, the two companies will explore three strategic collaboration points, namely, product marketing, investment and long-term business development. Mitsui will lead market development in Japan and support global reach, while MMP brings integrated smelter operational power that has been designed to meet the needs of the modern battery industry. The unification of this capability is expected not only to expand market access, but also to help understand changes in the needs of battery material customers in a more strategic and responsible manner.

In his remarks, MMP President Director Adhi Dharma Mustopo emphasized his commitment to continue to contribute to the progress of national nickel downstream.

"Today's signing marks the beginning of the collaboration that was built on the basis of common ambition, trust, and clear goals. Through this collaboration, we hope to strengthen Indonesia's position in the global high-grade nickel nickel supply chain as well as support the national downstream agenda," he said, in a written statement, Thursday, December 11.

"MMP as a 100% PMDN company through this collaboration is committed to ensuring that Indonesia's natural resources provide meaningful value to society and the economy. Together with Mitsui, we are optimistic that it can encourage sustainable growth and long-term benefits for all stakeholders," he added.

As part of this collaboration, Mitsui also expressed his support and views on strategic opportunities for the downstream nickel Indonesia sector.

"We are very pleased to start this collaboration with the MMP, a company that has a similar vision of sustainable growth and the development of responsible resources. Indonesia has an important role in the global energy transition, and the capability of the MMP makes it a strong partner for Mitsui," said Akinobu Hashimoto, General Manager of New Metals & Aluminum Division, Mitsui & Co., Ltd.

He added, by combining global marketing networks and Mitsui investment experience with MMP operational strength, his party hopes to create added value in the nickel downstream sector, and the battery ecosystem for electric vehicles.

Through this partnership, MMP and Mitsui will combine their respective strengths to position the high-grade niche Nickel MMP as a competitive and sustainable choice for the global electric vehicle and industrial battery ecosystem. Mitsui's extensive commercial network, along with MMP's operational capabilities, will open up greater market access and support the growing supply chain needs of battery raw materials. Both companies share the same belief that nickel smelting in Indonesia can be carried out responsibly, provide economic value for the nation, and participate in driving a cleaner energy transition.

MMP ESG Commitment: Sustainable Operations And Responsibility Growth

Process optimization also produces up to 10 percent energy saving and 50 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. MMP smelter designs provide production flexibility between ferronickel and high nickelferrowe, enabling adaptation to market needs.

In the social aspect, MMP is committed to community empowerment and the creation of local economic value. The company has absorbed up to 1,000 jobs for local workers and increased capacities. As a 100% PMDN company, MMP is an example of Indonesia's ability to build strategic industrial projects independently while still providing direct benefits to the community.
