Rice Stock Reaches 12.5 Million Tons, Badanas Ensures Enough For The Next Five Months

JAKARTA The National Food Agency (Bapanas) ensures that domestic rice stocks are safe and reach 12.5 million tons ahead of the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 (Nataru) periods. The stock is sufficient to meet the needs in the next five months.

Bapanas President Secretary Sarwo Edhy said the national staple food availability was at a very good level, namely through the 2025 National Food Balance Projection instrument.

"We from the National Food Agency want to convey that 11 important staples ahead of Nataru are safe. For rice until the end of December 2025, we have a stock of around 12.5 million tons," said Sarwo in a written statement, Tuesday, December 9.

Other food commodities, said Sarwo, include 4.5 million tons of corn stock, 91,000 tons of soybeans, 52,000 tons of shallots, 58,000 tons of garlic, 63,000 tons of large chilies, and 49,000 tons of cayenne pepper.

Sarwo said, the carry over stock will be used to meet people's consumption needs. When compared to monthly consumption needs, the stock at the end of the year of rice becomes the top because it has the longest resilience.

"With the estimated national rice stock until the end of 2025, it is still at 12.5 million tons, while the monthly consumption requirement is 2.599 million tons, the rice stock will be sufficient for almost five months," he said.

According to Sarwo, the year-end stock of corn is estimated to meet up to 3.5 months of consumption needs in 2026.

Meanwhile, the Head of Bapanas and Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman emphasized that the strong national rice stock is the main foundation of food stability ahead of Nataru and in a disaster emergency.

"With a strong national food stock, the government has sufficient space to maintain food stability and meet the needs of the community, especially rice for both regular consumption and disaster assistance," said Amran.
