JAKARTA - The flood control project in the Merauke Regency Food Production Center (KSPP) area has begun. This was reflected after the Ministry of Public Works (PU) signed a contract for the project on Friday, November 21.

Flood control work at KSPP Merauke Regency is divided into two, namely Package I and Package II. Package I work is located in Wanam Village, Ilwayab District, Merauke Regency, South Papua Province.

The implementation period is 242 calendar days, from November 21, 2025 to July 20, 2026. The output is 44 kilometers (km) with an outcome of 10,000 hectares (ha).

As for Package II which is also located the same as Package I has an output of 48 km and an outcome of 10,000 hectares. The implementation period is similar, namely 242 calendar days from November 21, 2025 to July 20, 2026.

PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said the flood control infrastructure was very important to maintain the sustainability of agricultural production in Merauke.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Water Resources at the Ministry of Public Works, Dwi Purwanto, said that the South Papua River Basin (BWS) team had begun to make preparations in the field in the hope that service providers could immediately start construction work.

"We have immediately rushed the preparations and asked service providers to start with the progress of the work being carried out. Hopefully, the work can start this dry season, so that the work will not be hampered when the rainy season arrives," he said.
