JAKARTA - The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has asked Perum Bulog to increase the warehouse capacity so that it can absorb grain and rice harvested by farmers next year. Meanwhile, Bulog was assigned to absorb 3 million tons of rice in 2026.
Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) who is also the Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman said that Bulog's exponential achievement in 2025 is rice stock until the end of the year which will be the highest stock ever owned.
In fact, said Amran, the projected stock of Government Rice Reserves (CBP) until the end of this year will still be more than 3 million tons and without any imports.
"In the future, what needs to be anticipated is because of our forecast in the next 1 month, the highest stock in December to January. This is our estimate, 3 million tons means that it is the highest for 57 years," Amran said in an official statement, Friday, November 21.
Badanas noted that since 2008 or in the last 18 years, CBP stocks until the end of the year have never touched the level of 3 million tons. In addition, CBP, which has not been supplied from imports, has never remained up to 3 million tons until the end of the year.
It was recorded that in 2008 there were no imports, the final stock of CBP was at 1.1 million tons. Then in 2009, which was also zero imports, at the end of the year left 1.6 million tons. Meanwhile, in 2019 to 2021 there were also no rice imports, until the end of the year the CBP stock in each of the three years was at 2.2 million tons, 1.9 million tons, and 0.8 million tons.
For this year, the government's rice stock until November 19, there are still a total of 3.903 million tons consisting of CBP 3.719 million tons and commercial 183,600 tons. From that, Bulog has procured 3.325 million tons of domestic procurement this year, consisting of 3.107 million tons for CBP and 217,900 tons of commercial stock.
Then the distribution of CBP to the community has reached 1.094 million tons and will continue to accelerate until the end of the year. CBP distribution programs through assignments from Bapanas to Bulog include Stabilization of Rice Supply and Food Prices (SPHP), rice food assistance, disasters and emergencies, to rice for the PNS budget group.
Therefore, Amran asked Bulog to prepare a harvest in 2026. He underlined that Bulog should prepare storage facilities for large stocks.
"Now it must be prepared from February to April (2026), it requires absorption of 3 million tons. 3 million tons (this year's stock) plus 3 million tons (next year's absorption), (can achieve) 6 million tons. This challenge is that warehouses must be prepared from now on because this is not easy. But, we are sure with yesterday's experience, Bulog is ready," said Amran.
There is also an estimate for Indonesia's latest rice production from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). In the November 2025 edition of the Food Outlook, FAO predicts that Indonesia's rice production for the period 2025-2026 can reach 36 million tons.
This projection is increasing when compared to the previous June 2025 edition of the Food Outlook FAO which estimated Indonesia's rice production to be at 35.6 million tons. FAO also reported that the 2025-2026 season will record global rice production which rose 1.2 percent compared to the previous season.
With the production of 36 million tons of rice, Indonesia has made Indonesia the largest producer of rice in the Southeast Asia region. Indonesia is said to exceed Vietnam 28.2 million tons, Thailand 22.2 million tons, Myanmar 16.7 million tons, the Philippines 12.5 million tons to Malaysia 1.5 million tons.
Meanwhile, the President Director of Perum Bulog Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani admitted that his party is ready to welcome the harvest next year. The increase in domestic production will be supported by Bulog by absorbing according to the assignment from the government.

The stock in our warehouse is now 3.8 million tons. Our prediction is that this will run out, (the remaining) is around 3.2 million tons at the end of December. Meanwhile, 3.2 million tons need new absorption. Around February, March, April, May, this is the peak of harvest. Therefore, in the future, Bulog will add warehouses," said Rizal.
According to President Prabowo Subianto's direction, continued Rizal, Bulog will build 100 Pascapanen Infrastructure (IPP) which includes rice and corn storage warehouses, drying facilities, milling units, silo, and rice to rice.
"As well as prioritizing development in the 3TP area (Disadvantaged, Frontier, Outermost, Border). A total of 51 IPPs will be built on Bulog land and 49 on grant land from local governments," he said.
