Carbon Credit Transactions From PLTP And PLTBg Pertamina Capai 37,000 Tons C02e At COP30

PT Pertamina (Persero) reports that it has succeeded in conducting carbon sales transactions of 37,000 tons of CO2e through two banking institutions, namely Bank Mandiri and CIMB Niaga. The carbon loan comes from the Sei Mangkei Biogas Power Plant project in North Sumatra and the Lahendong Geothermal Power Plant in North Sulawesi.

"This adds to the total cumulative achievement, after previously Pertamina managed to sell 846.00 tons of CO2e or the equivalent of 3 million US dollars since September 2023," said Pertamina's Director of Transformation and Business Sustainability, Agung Wicaksono in a statement to the media, Thursday, November 13.

Regarding carbon trading, said Agung, Pertamina is preparing steps to seize opportunities in the carbon market. Currently, Pertamina has prepared internal carbon pricing to facilitate investment decisions and take into account the value of the carbon economy in it which can encourage low-carbon businesses and energy efficiency.

With that, he continued, Pertamina can develop many new renewable energy projects or projects based on environmentally friendly raw materials such as Geothermal.

Pertamina has many geothermal projects. From these geothermal projects, other new renewable energy projects such as PLTBg, as well as those based on natural based solutions such as reforestation can generate carbon credit, "added Agung.

Pertamina continued, it will implement a Measurement Registration Verification (MRV) mechanism to ensure that the new renewable energy project is valid and recognized both in the domestic market and in the global market, so that later the company will not only receive funding, but also projects that produce environmentally friendly energy.

"These projects are not only green but also gold, therefore we need to build a cleaner Indonesia, greener, more advanced and richer," said Agung.

On a separate occasion, PT Pertamina's Vice President for Corporate Communication (Persero), Muhammad Baron, conveyed Pertamina's commitment to carbon credit trading has been shown since its inaugural launch in Indonesia.

In collaboration with the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), Pertamina made history as the first carbon credit seller through IDXCarbon on September 26, 2023, with sales currently accumulated at 864,000 tCO2e. In 2025, Pertamina's PNRE Subholding supported by the Ministry of Environment and the IDX, has generated carbon credit from the renewable energy sector of 249,000 tons of CO2e.

Pertamina through Pertamina NRE subholding generates carbon credit from geothermal projects and liquid waste from the palm oil processing plant (Palm Oil Mill Effluent/POME) to meet market demand. With the support of the Government and other stakeholders, Pertamina will lead the decarbonization and expansion of the carbon trading ecosystem in Indonesia," concluded Baron.
