Preventing Nataru Traffic Jams, Ministry Of Transportation Focuses On Regulating Vehicle Flows In Rest Areas

The Ministry of Transportation has prepared a number of anticipatory steps to maintain smooth traffic flow during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) holidays.

One of the main focuses is regulating the flow of vehicles in the rest area of toll roads which are often congestion points.

Director General of Land Transportation Aan Suhanan said that the management of rest areas is a serious concern because many vehicles stop without order, causing congestion of inflows and exits.

"Traffic engineering needs to be carried out within the rest area to ensure the smooth flow of entry and exit of vehicles," he said in an official statement, Wednesday, November 12.

Aan also highlighted the Bocimi (Bogor 'Ciawi' Sukabumi) toll road in Parungkuda, Sukabumi Regency, which has the potential to become one of the points of severe congestion if not managed properly.

"In Parungkuda, the arteries are also dense, on toll roads it must also be crowded because it is possible that the people of Jakarta who spend the Nataru holiday will increase. If we don't manage well, this will potentially get stuck there," explained Aan.

To support the smooth running of the current, the Ministry of Transportation encourages the use of technology and real time data such as the Jasamarga Integrated Digitalmap (JID) system which can predict vehicle movements.

"If I look at the data from JID, if it can be used and integrated by all AtI members, it is extraordinary, it can predict the movement of vehicles passing through the toll road," said Aan.

In addition to regulating the flow of vehicles, the Ministry of Transportation has also prepared a mitigation strategy for the potential for extreme weather.
