The Ministry Of Industry Reveals The Alleged Origin Of The Steel Trigger For The Cs-137 Radiation In The Cikande Industrial Estate

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) revealed the initial suspicion of the origin of used iron obtained by PT Peter Metal Technology (PMT).

The company was designated as a source of radiation for Cesium 137 (Cs-137) in the Cikande Industrial Estate, Serang Regency, Banten.

The Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry, Setia Diarta, said that based on the results of an examination by the Nuclear Energy Supervisory Agency (Bapeten), the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the police, a source of Cs-137 radiation was found in a steel smelting furnace owned by PT PMT.

PMT is a steel smelting company that uses steel screens to produce steel again.

"And the results of laboratory analysis show that contaminants at the location are identical to contaminants in the remaining production of PT PMT," he said at a Hearing Meeting (RDP) with Commission VII DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, November 10.

The man who akrap disapa Tata explained that PT PMT had previously applied for a script importation to the Ministry of Industry. However, his party never agreed.

Tata also suspected that there were two possible sources of screen raw materials obtained by PT PMT, namely originating from within the country or from parties who obtained a steel screen import permit.

However, he emphasized, methamphetamine imports should not be traded.

"If the supplier is from within the country, it is likely steel or used medical equipment that has the possibility to provide contaminants during the merger," he explained.

Currently, said Tata, the government is still tracing further steel script suppliers to PT PMT and how the raw materials are affected by radiation.

"Well, how to further investigate who actually supplied and how the raw material for the screen containing Cs-137 was obtained by Peter Metal, this was continued by law enforcement officials," he explained.
