Water Often Dies, PAM Jaya Needs IDR 14 Trillion For Rejuvenation Of Heritage Pipes From The Netherlands

JAKARTA - President Director of Perumda PAM Jaya, Arief Nasrudin, explained that the reason why water often does not flow was due to pipe factors, some of which were more than 100 years and a century old.

"Why is the water leak in Jakarta so high? Because the pipe is 103 years old, most of it," said Arief Nasrudin as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, November 9.

Arief said the 103-year-old pipe was in the Pasar Rebo area.

The pipeline is a Dutch heritage built in 1922.

"That's 20 million liters of storage. It's also in Buaran," said Arief.

Arief said that the reservoir was previously passive when it was not managed by PAM Jaya.

But now, he continued, the reservoir has been functioning properly until now after being managed by PAM Jaya.

Therefore, PAM Jaya wants to hold a limited meeting (ratas) with DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo.

Menurut Arief, PAM Jaya membutuhkan pendanaan hingga Rp14 triliun untuk memperbarui pipa tersebut dan agar airnya dapat langsung diminum.

“Ini mimpinya PAM Jaya yang pastinya mimpinya masyarakat Jakarta yang diinginkan oleh Gubernur kita, bahwasanya kalau airnya sudah kualitasnya baik, Insyaallah harusnya tidak ada stunting lagi, tidak ada penyakit yang karena air," katanya.

According to Arief, PAM Jaya needs funding of up to IDR 14 trillion to update the pipe and so that the water can be drunk immediately.

"This is PAM Jaya's dream, which is definitely the dream of the people of Jakarta that our governor wants, that if the water is of good quality, God willing, there should be no stunting anymore, no disease due to water," he said.
