BANDUNG - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Java Province predicts that the rice and corn harvest area in West Java (West Java) in 2025 is predicted to increase significantly, but vigilance is needed from related parties in the last three months of this year.

The harvest area in West Java for rice is predicted to increase by 19.16 percent compared to 2024, while the corn harvest area is predicted to increase by 47.34 percent compared to 2024.

"It is predicted to increase. But there are three months of that potential, namely October, November, December, this is where you have to be careful, don't be happy just yet, because there is a La Nina storm," said Intermediate Expert Statist Didin Tajudin as Chair of the Agricultural Statistics Team reported by ANTARA, Monday, November 3.

La Nina is a wet storm that has the potential to have a flood impact on agricultural land, whose effect affects production.

"So, can it be overcome or not too severe? If there is a flood, yes, of course, it will reduce the number of productions," said Didin.

West Java BPS noted that the total rice harvest area in 2025 is estimated to reach 1.76 million hectares, an increase of 19.16 percent compared to 2024.

The observations made by BPS were based on the area sample sample survey (KSA) activity in the rice fields area covering an area of 916,798 Ha, which was sourced from the Decree of the Minister of ATR/Head of BPN No.446.1/SK-PG.03.03/V/2024 dated May 31, 2024, regarding the determination of the national rice field raw area in 2024.

The 2025 subround I (January-April) harvest area increased by 0.16 million hectares, followed by an increase in subround II and subround III of 0.06 million hectares each.

Meanwhile, total rice production in 2025 is estimated to reach 10.23 million tons, an increase of 18.64 percent compared to 2024.

If detailed, the increase in rice production occurred in subround I of 0.90 million tons, subround II of 0.38 million tons and subround III of 0.32 million tons.

"From the BPS as much as possible, the total rice production in 2025 is estimated to reach 5.91 million tons, an increase of 0.93 million tons. This figure is an increase of 18.64 percent compared to 2024," said Acting Head of BPS West Java Darwis Sitorus.

In addition to rice, BPS also released a flat corn harvest area in January-December 2025 which is estimated to reach 114.92 thousand hectares, an increase of 47.34 percent compared to the same period in 2024.

Meanwhile, corn production in January-December 2025 is estimated to reach 835.11 thousand tons, an increase of 47.99 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
