JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) assesses that the use of digital payment transactions in the national transportation sector is still running slower than other sectors.

BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta said that although the implementation of digitalization in the transportation sector was on the right track, the acceleration of adoption still needed to be increased so that the benefits could be felt more widely.

"This transportation is running a bit less quickly, I don't say it's slow but not fast enough fast but the speed is probably already on the right track but the speed we have to push," he said at the Opening Ceremony Day 2 FEKDI X IFSE 2025, Friday, October 31.

Responding to these conditions, he said BI continues to strengthen cooperation with various parties, including the Ministry of Transportation and transportation authorities, to expand the implementation of digital payment systems.

Filianingsih added that one of the initiatives being developed is the use of the Tap In & Tap Out Quick Response Code (QRIS) based on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology in public transportation modes.

He explained that this digital payment innovation is expected to encourage local governments to adopt similar systems in their respective regions, so that the integration of transportation payments can be realized nationally.

"We encourage the regional government, and at this time we focus on the transportation sector," he explained.

For information, BI has just launched the QRIS Tap In & Tap Out service on Thursday, October 30 for five modes of transportation in the Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Bekasi, and Depok (Jabodetabek) areas, as a first step towards a more efficient and integrated public transportation payment system.

The five modes of transportation that now support the payment system for QRIS Tap In & Out include the Indonesian Commuter Train (KCI / KRL), Light Rail Transit (LRT) Jakarta and Jabodetabek, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), and TransJakarta.
