JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) continues to strive to improve the competence of construction workers, one of which is through certification programs that are carried out in a sustainable manner in various regions.
The certification includes workers who are involved in labor-intensive programs.
The increase in the competence of labor-intensive labor is a strategic step for the Ministry of Public Works in maintaining the quality and quality of infrastructure development results.
In other words, strong and sustainable infrastructure is not only determined by the materials and technologies used, but also by the quality of its human resources.
Through certification, the Ministry of Public Works ensures that construction workers in the regions, including those who work in labor-intensive programs, have the same competence and professional recognition as workers in big cities.
As of October 29, 2025, the Directorate General of Construction Development of the Ministry of Public Works noted that 3,566 workers had been certified or equivalent to 73.89 percent of the 4,826 target.
Of these, the graduation rate reached 95.99 percent, showing the enthusiasm and readiness of local workers in improving competence and meeting professional standards in the construction sector.
The labor certification program for labor construction is labor-intensive, one of which is carried out by the Regional Construction Services Center (BJKW) VII Jayapura.
At least 100 registered participants for the work positions of Building Builders Level 2 who are members of community-based infrastructure projects (IBM) participated in the certification program in Tobelo, North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province, on October 29-30, 2025.
This activity is part of an effort to improve the competence of labor in the regions, especially the eastern region of Indonesia in order to obtain a work competency certificate (SKK).
The certificate is proof of professional ability as well as job quality assurance, as mandated by Law Number 2 of 2017 concerning Construction Services.
With the construction worker certification program, PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said workers are expected to be able to work more professionally, efficiently and safely in supporting infrastructure development throughout Indonesia.
