JAKARTA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono revealed that Indonesia's marine health condition is very critical. This is because sea conservation rooms and the number of ships pass by every day.

Based on data from the National Commission for the Study of Fish Resources (Kajiskan), Trenggono said, Indonesia's fishery production potential reaches 12 million tons. However, it was found that there were more than 50,000 fishing every day. It also triggered a decline in the health condition of the Indonesian sea.
"If every day more than around 50,000 use VMS, those who do not use VMS will be even bigger. If we add more, there are ships using ICE. Well, look at that, nothing is healthy at all, that's our marine situation," he said.
In the future, according to Trenggono, this will be a serious concern for his party. Given, he said, human life depends heavily on marine health conditions.
"In our view, this should be our very serious concern in the future. Because human life depends on the health of the sea. The air we drink, the water we drink, the food that grows, then can be harvested and so on, if the sea is damaged, destroyed, it will not be possible," he explained.
