The Ministry of Public Works (PU) said that currently it has not determined the state budget to rebuild Al Khoziny's Islamic boarding school (Ponpes) in Sidoarjo, East Java, which collapsed on Monday, September 29.
This was confirmed by the Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, when met after delivering his remarks at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (IISF) 2025 at the Jakarta Convention Center, Friday, October 10.
Dody said the government had not yet calculated the determination of the state budget for the construction of the boarding school.
The reason is, the police are still investigating the case of the collapse of the mosque building which claimed the lives of dozens of students.
"Not yet (it is calculated that the budget) is still far away. While not yet, yes. Still with the police, there is still a police line," said Dody.
He said the Ministry of Public Works has a project development allocation in the education sector, both public and religious-based schools such as Islamic boarding schools.
The allocation of funds for assistance will be coordinated with the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) and the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag).
"We, right, have education funds. Public Works have educational funds at the Directorate General of Strategic Planning. It can be Islamic and non-Islamic education. Islam can later be used for Islamic boarding schools or other places," he said.
So far, said Dody, his party is still focused on checking the quality of buildings in several boarding schools that are considered vulnerable and do not have Building Agreements (PBG).
According to Dody, the government is only limited to urging and facilitating Islamic boarding school administrators to complete PBG.
However, he continued, the authority to renovate is in the hands of the local government (Pemda).
"Sanctions, really, no, we just urge PBG to complete. Then we help them apply PBG like what, right (the management) is in the local government. Later, we will talk to the local government," he explained.
