JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Public Works (PU) has opened a hotline service for the community or the management of Islamic boarding schools (ponpes) who want to consult regarding the reliability of building buildings.
This step was taken as a follow-up to the collapse of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo, East Java, on Monday, September 29.
The hotline service can be accessed via telephone number 158 on weekdays, Monday to Friday from 08.30-16.00 WIB and WhatsApp Center at 0815 10000 158 by selecting the Pesantren Consulting Service menu/Panti Asuhan/Sekolah/Yayasan.
The entire service is provided free of charge.
PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said the program was a concrete step to strengthen the security system for religious education buildings while increasing public awareness of the importance of building technical permits and eligibility.
"We have opened this hotline so that the public, especially pesantren, can report or ask for assistance if they feel they are prone to collapse or do not have a building permit. The PU Ministry team throughout Indonesia is ready to go directly to check and assist," said Dody in an official statement quoted on Wednesday, October 8.
This quick step is part of efforts to develop buildings nationally, especially for religious educational institutions that are generally built independently.
The PU Ministry Hotline serves two types of main consultations. First, consulting the reliability of buildings, both for simple buildings (under 500 square meters and a maximum of two floors) and non-simple buildings (over 500 square meters and more than two floors).
Priority is given to Islamic boarding schools, schools, orphanages and foundations that do not yet have technical capabilities, Building Building Approval (PBG) or are built without involving certified experts.
Second, consultation on PBG management and Functional Eligibility Certificate (SLF) for all types of buildings, including assistance for Islamic boarding schools that are currently applying for permits.
"The Ditjen Cipta Karya team throughout Indonesia is ready to help. Please Islamic boarding schools or educational institutions that feel the building is at risk immediately contact our hotline. The government will help at no cost so that the safety of students, teachers and caregivers can be guaranteed," he said.
As a follow-up to the medium term until December 2025, the Ministry of Public Works will conduct a sampling assessment of the reliability of Islamic boarding schools in eight provinces with the highest number of Islamic boarding schools, namely West Java; East Java; Banten; Central Java; Aceh; South Kalimantan; South Sumatra; and South Sulawesi.

Of the total, 80 Islamic boarding schools will be selected as samples, both those that have been established and are being built or renovated.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Public Works has also prepared support for renovation and reconstruction for Islamic boarding schools with certain priorities, including buildings over 50 years old, accommodating more than 500 students, having high risk, consisting of more than two floors and being built without a certified construction workforce.
"We want to ensure that Islamic boarding schools are safe and in accordance with technical standards. Many Islamic boarding schools stand up with the spirit of mutual cooperation, but not all of them pay attention to the aspects of structure and licensing. Therefore, we open free assistance so that licensing and assessment runs well," he concluded.
