PT PLN (Persero) through its subsidiary, PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) officially started the construction of the Saguling Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 92 megawatt peak (MWp) in Saguling Reservoir, West Bandung Regency, West Java.
President Director of PLN Indonesia Power, Bernadus Sudarmanta, said that the Saguling Floating PLTS is projected to be able to generate more than 130 Ggawatt hour (GWh) of electricity per year.
"This amount is sufficient to meet the energy needs of around 24,000 households while reducing carbon emissions to 104,000 tons of CO2 per year," he said in a statement to the media, Friday, October 3.
He continued, this plant is targeted to operate commercially in November 2026.
Bernardus explained that the project, which is included in the National Strategic Project (PSN) in accordance with Presidential Regulation No.109 of 2020, was built by utilizing less than 5 percent of the total area of the Saguling Reservoir so as not to interfere with the main function of the reservoir as an irrigation facility and hydroelectric power plant (PLTA).
