The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) emphasized the importance of setting flight time slots as an effort to maintain the regularity, safety, and smooth operation of airports.

The flight slot time is an approval or recommendation time given to airlines to carry out aircraft movements, both take off and land, on certain days and hours.

The Director General of Civil Aviation, Lukman F. Laisa, said that the flight time slot was allocated to airlines with special SOPs that aim to prevent overcapacity in airports and reduce potential flight delays.

According to Lukman, slot time is not just an administrative matter. He emphasized that this instrument played a major role in ensuring that the flow of aircraft movements in the Indonesian sky was efficient.

Through slot time arrangements, every movement of aircraft in the airport can be managed in a balanced manner. This not only maintains the smooth flow of flights, but also supports the safety and comfort aspects of passengers," Lukman said in an official statement, Wednesday, October 1.

Lukman said the time slot management process in Indonesia was carried out by the Indonesia Airport Slot Management (IASM) for scheduled flights in 46 certain airports.

Meanwhile, the scheduled slot time arrangement outside the airport managed by IASM, including slots for unscheduled flights, continued Lukman, is managed by local airport managers and navigation service managers (AirNav).

"The slot that has been given to airlines is one of the main requirements in submitting flight approvals (scheduled, unscheduled, or non-commercial activities)," he said.

Furthermore, Lukman continued, the implementation of the slot will be evaluated by the Airport Authority Office as the Slot Coordination Implementation Unit (UPKS) and the Director of Air Transport as the Ex Official Directorate General of Air Transportation as the current Head of Slot Organizers.

"The Directorate General of Civil Aviation always ensures that the time slot arrangements run according to the provisions. We continue to coordinate with all stakeholders, including airport managers and navigation service managers (AirNav), as well as airlines, so that flight services can run safely, smoothly, and on time," said Lukman.

Lukman said, as the regulator and supervisor of the implementation of national air transportation, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation emphasized that the main objective of regulating flight time slots is to maximize airport capacity; and maintain smooth and flight safety.

"As well as reducing travel delays for the community," he said.

In addition, he said, all policies and supervision of slot time are also in line with 3S+1C principles (safety, security, services, and compliance) which are the main commitments of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in realizing safe, safe, comfortable, and regulatory flights.

"With good time slot management, the flow of aircraft movements in airports can take place more regularly and efficiently, thus supporting increased air connectivity and national flight services in a sustainable manner," he said.
