Pertamina Refinery Operates 4 New Tanks In Balongan

JAKARTA - Pertamina International Refinery (KPI) seeks to strengthen national energy security through the completion of the construction of 4 new tank units at the Balongan Refinery. The four tanks each have a capacity of 29,000 m3.

"In addition to the process of processing crude oil into fuel and non-fuel products, other things that are equally important in refinery operations are inventory management, both related to raw materials, as well as the products produced," said Acting Secretary of KPI, Milla Suciyani, Monday, September 29.

Milla revealed, with the completion of 4 new tanks at the Balongan Refinery, it will increase the flexibility of the Balongan Refinery in terms of the management of fuel products. To date, the Balongan Refinery operates more than 70 tanks of raw materials and products.

Mila said the Balongan Refinery itself has a strategic function to meet fuel needs in the Jakarta, Banten and parts of West Java areas. The distribution process from the Balongan Refinery is not only carried out through pipelines, but distribution is also carried out by ship.

"The Balongan refinery is Pertamina's most complex refinery today. The complexity of the refinery is marked by the Nelson Complexity Index or NCI indicator at 11.9. NCI describes the complexity of the refinery. The higher the NCI value, then the refinery produces more high-quality products and the production process is more efficient," Milla explained.

KPI explained Milla, is a form of Pertamina's work to provide energy for Indonesia. KPI has a role in producing fuel and non-fuel products as targeted. For this reason, KPI continues to ensure the reliability of its refinery.

The tank project began in August 2023 and mid-2025 has been completed. Currently, the tank has also been used.

"The work on this tank development is also one of the prides of KPI, because it recorded the achievement of safe working hours from early to June 30, 2025, above 1 million hours of safe working hours. All workers involved are also 100% domestic workers," Milla explained.

In addition, according to Milla, KPI supports the use of domestic products in the project.

"We believe that domestic products have adequate quality in the oil and gas industry. The use of domestic products reaches around 58 percent of the initial target of 56 percent. This is one way that KPI provides multiplier effects to many parties," concluded Milla.
