JAKARTA - PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk plans to cut down a number of flight routes that are considered unfavorable. This step is also in line with the plan to add routes that are considered potential.

Director of Commerce Garuda Indonesia, Reza Aulia Hakim revealed that the company has disabled several routes that are considered unprofitable until August 2025.

In addition, said Reza, the company also plans to restructure the intra-Papua route until the end of the year.

"Until the end of the year, it is planned that there are several additional routes that we will stop operating and then we will also restructure the Papua intra route," Reza said in a Hearing Meeting with Commission VI of the DPR, in Jakarta, Monday, September 22.

Reza said that from January to August 2025, the company had added 2 new routes, namely the Jakarta-Samarinda and Halim Perdanakusuma-Denpasar routes.

The plan, continued Reza, is that Garuda Indonesia will also open the Halim Perdanakusuma-Palembang route. The consideration is because the market potential is quite large.

"This possibility is that the market is quite large, namely Halim-Palembang, we are also reviewing the expansion of domestic and international networks while still prioritizing profitability in line with fleet readiness," he explained.

Not only that, Reza said that Garuda Indonesia will also expand international cooperation next year.

"In the future, we plan to add some of the global airlines for cooperation, we will plan with JetBlue, Riyad Air and Virgin Atlantic next year to strengthen our ecosystem globally," he said.
