JAKARTA - PT Aneka Tambang (Persero) Tbk (ANTM) emphasized that it adheres to Antam Green Standard (AGS) as a guideline in carrying out a sustainable mining business.
Antam's Corporate Secretary, Syarif Faisal Alkadrie said that in carrying out planning, identification, risk management, and environmental monitoring, Antam has obligations that must be carried out as stated in AGS.
"So when we mine we have guidance, references, guidelines on how to manage mining and post-mining that have been prepared," he said, quoted on Monday, September 15.
With many areas of Antam's operations spread across various regions in Indonesia, he continued, Antam is committed to carrying out mining activities that are sustainable both in terms of business and management of the environment and society.
He said the mining industry plays a major role in the development and progress of the world. According to him, various aspects of human life are still related to mining, such as cellphones, televisions, and new industries, which have components originating from mining products.
"It remains only for us as mining companies to be responsible both in terms of mining and processing so that they can be sustainable," he continued.
To implement these standards, he continued, Antam has also built an environmental management system with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 to maintain accountability for environmental management performance in all business units such as UPB Gold to a subsidiary of Nickel mining, PT Gag Nickel located in Papua.
ANTAM Sustainability Roadmap
Faisal explained that actually Antam has a roadmap or roadmap that has been compiled for 2025 to 2030, which has three parts, firstly overseeing the implementation and accelerating improvements in 2025 to 2026, then Continuing Repairs in 2027 to 2028, and finally Target in 2029 to 2030.
For the stage of Supervising Implementation and Accelerating Improvements, Faisal said Antam would decarbonize through the use of renewable energy in the Nickel Kolaka Mining Business Unit (UBP) by providing Renewable Energy Certificate (REC).

Furthermore, empowerment of the surrounding community through the integrated farming program of Cisarua village at UBP Gold and the Danau Laet Nature and Culture Village Program at UBP Bauxite, West Kalimantan.
Meanwhile, for the Continuous Repair stage in 2027 and 2028, Antam will decarbonize through the use of renewable energy at UBP Bauxite West Kalimantan by providing Renewable Energy Certificate (REC). Then will also rehabilitate the river ecosystem and reclamation of post-mining land.
"Empowerment and concern for the surrounding community through stunting-free programs and harmonious plantations at UBP Nickel Kolaka as well as stunting-free programs and school development at UBP Nickel Konawe Utara," continued Faisal.
Finally, for the Target stage in 2029-2030, Antam targets an emission reduction of 15.8 percent from the baseline business as usual in 2023.
"If we see decarbonization, net zero emissions in 2060, Antam adopts and implements the target by lowering it to the target by 2030," added Faisal.
Furthermore, Antam is also targeting a new renewable energy mix of 10 percent of the baseline. On the other hand, Antam also targets all rehabilitation areas that have undergone the 5 year program to have a success rate of more than 75 percent.
"This is not easy. The average success is different, so the reference in Antam is success above 75 percent," he said.
