JAKARTA - The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) noted that furniture products from Indonesia managed to achieve transaction potential of US$3.07 million or equivalent to Rp50.60 billion in the Korea International Furniture and Interior Fair (KOFURN) 2025, in South Korea (South Korea) at the end of August 2025.

According to the Director General of National Export Development of the Indonesian Ministry of Trade Fajarini Puntodewi, South Korean buyers like Indonesian furniture because it has succeeded in answering the needs of South Korean consumers for multifunctional and compact furniture that adapts to the characteristics of housing in South Korea.

"The South Korean buyer likes multifunctional furniture that is not too large which is easy to move. This adapts to the characteristics of housing in South Korea, which generally has a limited area, so it requires practical furniture, but remains aesthetic," said Puntodewi in a statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Sunday, September 14.

A total of 12 Indonesian furniture exporters who participated displayed superior export furniture products highlighting the use of products made from wood and sustainable rattan.

All participants also displayed the richness of Indonesian natural materials and designs that combine traditional craftsmen' skills with modern touch with minimalistic and elegant characteristics. This feature is in accordance with the design trend in the South Korean market.

"Indonesia furniture products of reddish color (cherry color) and furniture that expose wood fiber give a natural and modern impression. This is the most popular for South Korean buyers," he explained.

Director of Export Development for Manufacturing Products at the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, Deden Muhammad Fajar Shiddiq, added that visitors who were dominated by final consumers showed the interest of the people of South Korea towards furniture products.

This high interest opens up opportunities to increase export value and strengthen the export market of Indonesian furniture products in South Korea and the East Asian region.

"This condition is an input for us to find partners, distributors, or open showrooms in South Korea because some participants already have buyers in South Korea," said Deden.

The Ministry of Trade will evaluate and communicate to exhibition participants periodically, as well as encourage exhibition participants to take advantage of various advantages of the Indonesia-Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (Indonesia-Korea CEPA) to encourage exports to South Korea.

"We hope that several factors such as eliminating zero percent tariff in the Indonesia-Korea CEPA scheme and the high level of purchasing power of the people of South Korea, especially for furniture products, can be a driving factor in increasing furniture exports to South Korea," added Deden.
