Minister Of Trade Budi Will Revitalize 404 Traditional Markets, Need Funds Of IDR 2.42 Trillion

JAKARTA - The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Budi Santoso revealed that there are 404 traditional market units in 194 regencies that need to be revitalized.

Furthermore, Budi said that the budget needed to reach Rp2.42 trillion to revitalize the 404 traditional markets.

"The Ministry of Trade has received a proposal of 404 market units from 194 regencies and cities. And if we calculate the average of 404 market units, it will cost IDR 2.42 trillion," he said in a working meeting with Commission VI of the DPR RI, at the DPR RI Building, Jakarta, Thursday, September 4.

Budi admits that the revitalization of traditional markets has not yet been budgeted. Therefore, Budi asked for the support of Commission VI of the DPR so that this traditional market revitalization program could be implemented.

"Well, this is what has not been budgeted. We ask for support from the Honorary Members of Commission VI so that the realization for market revitalization can run well," he said.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), continued Budi, the number of markets in Indonesia currently stands at around 17,453 with around 2.8 million traders.

Budi said the Ministry of Trade continues to develop and increase the competitiveness of traditional markets. One of them is by introducing online sales.

Even so, Budi said that the increase in competitiveness also needed to be accompanied by market revitalization.

We do teach markets to be online too. Physical markets must also be, but they can sell online. Physically there are, still there, but also because of that we cannot deny that even in the regions, now in the people's market, apart from offline selling, it's also online. Well, we agree that market revitalization must still be done," he said.
