JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has ensured that the construction of the 49.68 kilometer (km) Probolinggo (Banyuwangi) Toll Road which extends from the Gending area to Basuki will be completed by the end of 2025.
PU Minister Dody Hanggodo explained that accelerating the completion of the construction was part of the government's efforts to increase connectivity evenly to the eastern region of Java Island.
"Because it is expected to cut travel time between regions in the logistics sector, it is hoped that it will encourage the growth of new economic centers," said Dody as quoted from his official statement, Tuesday, August 26.
The construction of the Probolinggo 'Banyuwangi Toll Road, starting from Gending to Besuki, is divided into 3 sections, namely Section 1 Gending' Kraksaan along 12.88 km with construction progress until July 25, 2025, which has reached 89.97 percent.
Then, Section 2 of the 11.20 km Kraksaan 'Paiton' has reached 97.18 percent and Section 3 of Paiton' Besuki has reached 76.26 percent.
It is hoped that the completion of the toll road construction will shorten the travel time from the direction of Probolinggo to Besuki, which was originally around 1 hour and 15 minutes to 30 minutes with an average speed of 80-100 km/hour.
As a whole, the Probolinggo Banyuwangi Toll Road has a length of 175.46 km divided into two stages of development.
The details, stage 1 which connects Probolinggo Besuki is 49.68 km long and Phase 2 connects Besuki-Banyuwangi along 126.10 km.

Especially for stage 1, overall land acquisition progress is above 99 percent, so toll road construction work can be completed immediately with a target completion in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The Phase I construction will have three Toll Gates (GT), namely GT Kraksaan, GT Paiton and GT Besuki and three intersections, namely Simpang Susun (SS) Kraksaan, SS Paiton and SS Besuki.
"The Probolinggo Banyuwangi Toll Road is the final section of the Trans Java Toll Road network that connects the west end to the east end of Java Island to improve connectivity and facilitate the mobility of people, goods and services," concluded Dody.
