JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggoro reviewed the work of improving the Cikeusik Irrigation Area (DI) irrigation network in Cirebon and Kuningan Regencies, West Java, Wednesday, August 20.
The project was carried out by the Cimanuk-Cisangrung River Basin Center (BBWS) as part of the government's efforts to support the food self-sufficiency program.
The program is one of the focuses of agricultural infrastructure development in President Prabowo Subianto's Astacita.
The improvement of the irrigation network IN Cikeusik aims to restore the function and capacity of the canal to meet the watering needs of agricultural land.
The location of the work includes Pabuaran Kidul Village in Pabuaran District, Bojongnegara Village, Ciledug District (Cirebon Regency) and Jatimulya Village in Cidahu District ( Kuningan Regency).
In his review, Dody emphasized the importance of accelerating the completion of the work so that the project can be completed on time and according to quality standards.
"This rehabilitation is important for agricultural intensification with adequate water supply and earlier the head of the office said that the work did not interfere with the third planting season because the water was still flowing," said Dody as quoted from his written statement, Thursday, August 21.
The irrigation network upgrade work began on March 25, 2025, and is targeted for completion by 19 December.
The main focus of the project includes handling the 3,260 meter East Maneung main channel with service benefits covering an area of 288 hectares of agricultural land and a 202 meter Maneungteung Head channel.
In addition to being aimed at increasing agricultural productivity, the project also has a local economic impact.
Around 137 local workers were directly involved in the development, while the material needs were mostly supplied by local suppliers.
According to Dody, the existence of an optimal functioning irrigation network will be the main support in improving the planting index and maintaining food production stability in West Java, especially in the Cirebon and Kuningan areas, which are rice farming centers.
Dody also checked the work to strengthen the cliffs of the Cisanggarung and Babakan rivers. The location is on the border of Kuningan and Cirebon (West Java) Regencies with Brebes (Central Java) Regency.
Flood control work in the area has been in the works since 2024 and is targeted for completion by 2026.
