JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto issued a stern warning to business owners who violate regulations, including those hoarding goods and sacrificing the livelihoods of many.

He stated that the government will not hesitate to take firm action.

"The government I lead will not hesitate. We will always be firm with those who violate regulations and complicate the lives of the people," he said at the 2025 Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Friday, August 15.

Prabowo further stated that his administration will not discriminate and will prosecute large businesses that violate the law. He also assured that he will confiscate hoarded goods.

"I assure you that we will process large companies that violate the law and confiscate whatever we can. We will save the people," he said.

To protect Indonesian consumers, Prabowo continued, the government under his command will also remain vigilant against fraud, manipulation, deception, hoarding, and withholding of food distribution.

"We ensure that the Indonesian people do not fall victim to greedy economics, victims of businessmen who pursue maximum profits by deceiving and victimizing the Indonesian people," he said.

Prabowo also touched on the penalties for food hoarders, which refer to the 1945 Constitution and Law Number 7 of 2014 concerning Trade, specifically Article 107 in conjunction with Article 29 paragraph 1.

"Business actors who hoard basic necessities and/or essential goods in certain quantities and for a certain period of time during times of scarcity, price fluctuations, and/or traffic congestion can face a maximum prison sentence of five years and/or a maximum fine of IDR 50 billion," he explained.
