Ministry Of Trade: First Phase Of IP-CEPA For Goods Trading, Services And Investments Following

JAKARTA - Director General of International Trade Negotiations of the Ministry of Trade, Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, revealed that the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Indonesia and Peru (IP-CEPA) was only realized for the goods trade sector.

"I need to convey it even though the title is CEPA, Comprehensive Economic Partnership, but for Indonesia and Peru we use the incremental approach so gradually. The first stage we focus on trading goods," he said at a press conference at the Ministry of Trade Office, Jakarta, Tuesday, August 12.

Meanwhile, continued Djatmiko, the trade in services and investment between the two countries has not been implemented.

"So there is no element of trade in its services or investment yet. Why? Because we agreed we wanted to try to resolve (the agreement) more quickly," he said.

As a result, said Djatmiko, the process of finalizing the agreement was achieved within 14 months.

He added that actually the negotiations for comprehensive economic cooperation between Indonesia and Peru had been initiated since 2023.

However, continued Djatmiko, the launch of the negotiations only started in May 2024 and was completed on August 6, 2025.

"Alhamdulillah, 12 months, yes, 14 months, yes, if you are 14 months, 14 months are over. So it's relatively fast, not up to 2 years exactly like that," he explained.

For your information, Indonesia and Peru officially signed three strategic cooperation documents during the state visit of the President of the Republic of Peru, Dina Ercilia Bouarte Zegarra on Monday, August 11.

Of the three documents, one of the documents signed is the approval of the Indonesia's comprehensive economic partnership (IP CEPA) which can expand market access and trade activities between the two countries.

Menurut Prabowo, hanya dalam kurun waktu 14 bulan, IP-CEPA telah disepakati dan ditandatangani oleh kedua negara.

“Biasanya perundingan ini memakan waktu bertahun-tahun. Kita, Peru dan Indonesia berhasil dalam 14 bulan kita selesaikan perjanjian ini. Di semua sektor kita akan kerja sama untuk meningkatkan perdagangan di antara kedua negara kita,” ujar Prabowo dilansir dari laman Sekretariat Negara, Selasa, 12 Agustus.

Presiden Prabowo Subianto mengapresiasi keberhasilian penyelesaian negosiasi dalam waktu singkat.

According to Prabowo, in just 14 months, the IP-CEPA has been agreed upon and signed by the two countries.

"Usually these negotiations take years. We, Peru and Indonesia succeed in 14 months to complete this agreement. In all sectors we will cooperate to increase trade between our two countries," Prabowo said as quoted by the State Secretariat website, Tuesday, August 12.
