JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan) Sudaryono encouraged the strengthening of superior livestock breeding and downstream national milk production to support the Free Nutrition Food (MBG) program launched by President Prabowo Subianto.

"We want to strengthen the nursery ecosystem from upstream to downstream, including ensuring the availability of quality feed which is the main foundation of livestock productivity," said Wamenan during a working visit to the Center for Superior Livestock and Green breeding (BBPTU-HPT) Baturraden, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, quoted by Antara, Monday, August 4.

According to him, breeding of high-quality cows and dairy goats is the key to increasing milk production, so that if livestock is maintained according to operational standards, milk yields increase and farmers can get greater profits.

Sudaryono assessed that the current national milk market opportunity is very large, especially through the MBG program which will target school children as well as pregnant and lactating women.

"Hopefully, MBG's milk needs can be supplied by local breeders through the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG). That way, the economy of the village community will also grow," he said again.

The Deputy Minister admitted that he had met a number of parties including the Banyumas and Cilacap Regency Governments to absorb the daily milk production of BBPTU-HPT Baturraden which reached 7,000 liters per day to meet the needs of the MBG program.

Regarding price problems, he said, this could be anticipated through more efficient packaging innovations so that the selling price of milk remains affordable.

"If you use a bottle, it's expensive, maybe you can use a plastic pillow. The important thing is that our children drink milk, that's the most important thing," he asserted.

Asked about the fulfillment of the dairy cow population, Sudaryono said that the procurement of dairy cows was not carried out by the government, but through the active participation of the private sector.

"Imports of dairy cows are not by the government, but we encourage the private sector to bring live cows to Indonesia," he also said.

He said that based on data from the Ministry of Agriculture, it shows that so far around 27,000 have entered from the national target of 100,000 dairy cows by the end of 2025.

Wamenan emphasized the importance of synergy between all parties to strengthen the cattle population, milk production, and distribution in a sustainable manner.

He also witnessed the signing of a collaboration between BBPTU-HPT and private business actors in the development of the nursery sector and milk production.

In addition to BBPTU-HPT Baturraden, Wamenan also reviewed two farm development farms in Banyumas, namely Farm Manggala in Karangtengah Village, Cilongok District, and Farm Tegalsari in Kemutug Lor Village, Baturraden District.

On a separate occasion, BBPTU-HPT Head Baturraden Dani Kusworo said that currently the hall produces 7,000 liters of milk per day, about 5,500 liters of which are distributed to the public through cooperatives and the dairy processing industry, including several major producers.

"Alhamdulillah, we have now also collaborated with three SPPGs for the Free Nutrition Eating program. Every week, we do two deliveries, 3,500 bottles each," he also said.

He said the potential for BBPTU-HPT milk production is actually much larger because if converted, 1 liter of milk can be processed into eight bottles.

This means that with the current production capacity, he said, BBPTU-HPT Baturraden is able to produce up to 40,000 bottles of milk per day.

"That means it can meet the needs of 12 to 15 SPPGs every day," he said.

Furthermore, he said the BPPTU-HPT Baturraden targets an increase in milk production, which is currently an average of 12-15 liters per dairy cow per day.

In this case, his party has tried green feed technology such as silase and self-produced block minerals.

"At the beginning of 2025, our production was only 9-10 liters, and now we can reach 12-15 liters per head per day," he said.

With this increase, his party targets production per tail to reach 20 liters per day.

If the target is achieved from 450 dairy cows owned by BPPTU-HPT Baturraden, he said, daily production could reach 10,000-12,000 liters by 2026.

"With the production of 10,000 to 12,000 liters per day, God willing, we can cover 20 SPPGs in Banyumas," said Dani.

In addition to increasing production, BPPTU-HPT Baturraden will also increase the cattle population through collaboration with PT Suri Nusantara to import 1,000 cows from 2025 to 2029.

In the initial stage, as many as 250 cows will enter in 2025 and the rest will be placed in a new 50 hectare cage to be built by the importer company in the Manggala area.
