Minister Of Industry Agus Targets Indonesia To Be The World's 3rd Footwear Exporter By 2028

JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita targets Indonesia to rank 3rd world footwear exporters in 2028.

Agus said that currently Indonesia still occupies the 6th position of world footwear exporters with exports reaching 1.89 billion US dollars until the first quarter of 2025.

Referring to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the export figure rose 13.8 percent on an annual basis or year on year (yoy).

"We are targeting that by 2028 we must be able to move up to position 4 or 3. Dare or not?" Agus said at the opening of the 2025 Merdeka Fest Exhibition entitled "Healthy Life with Local Products" at the Ministry of Industry's Building Industrial Plaza, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 29.

He said that his party would study the causes of Indonesia's occupying the 6th position in the world and which countries are above Indonesia.

"Later we will study why it is ranked 6th in the world, who are the countries above us and how they can exceed our export value," he said.

Later, said Agus, his party will study and find out what solutions can be taken to improve this position.

"We sit down, what kind of design will we design later. We study countries that are indeed bigger than us so that they can follow these countries," he said.

In addition, Agus said, the Indonesian sports footwear industry is also expected to grow based on the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 13.1 percent in the last 5 years.

According to Agus, this figure places Indonesia ranked 3rd in the world as the largest footwear exporter with a total selling of 450 million pairs per year and absorbing up to 500,000 workers in West Java, Banten to East Java.

"And this position certainly strengthens our belief that the industry has a strong foundation and continues to maintain momentum for expansion in the global market," Agus concluded.
