JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) strengthens the synergy between the center and the regions in the construction of the National Salt Industry Center (K-SIGN) in Rote Ndao Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.

It is known that the K-SIGN area will be developed in three stages until 2027 with a total land area of around 13,000 hectares divided into 10 production zones.

Each zone will be equipped with production facilities, processing plants and supporting infrastructure, such as distribution piers and production roads. The first phase of development will begin in Zone 1 covering an area of 1,192 hectares.

"The support from the Provincial Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service has also been very good. Likewise with the Rote Ndao Regency Government, we must work together," said the Director General of Marine Management of the KKP Koswara in his official statement, Monday, July 28.

Koswara said that his party had collaborated with various parties, including the Regional Office of the NTT National Land Agency (BPN); the NTT Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service; PUPR Service; PLN; High Prosecutor's Office; Satreskrim; and the community to jointly increase production, quality and national salt independence towards national salt self-sufficiency.

"The involvement of various parties is very much needed, we have asked the prosecutor's office for assistance in KKP priority programs," he said.

According to Koswara, his party has also signed several cooperation agreements, including the NTT BPN and PLN for the smooth running of the program.

He considered that the collaboration in the implementation of salt was very important, considering that salt was not just a strategic commodity, but an important part of food security and the national industry.

"KKP encourages the industrialization of the regional-based agriculture sector for the efficiency of supply chains, improving the welfare of farmers and added value of salt products," he explained.

In the long term, the existence of K-SIGN in Rote Ndao is expected to be a catalyst for the growth of derivative industries, such as consumption salt, various foods and the chemical industry.

"The increase in regional income and foreign exchange for the state is also a significant economic impact of this project," he said.

Meanwhile, the Director of Marine Resources of the Directorate General of Marine and Fishery Resources Supervision (PSDKP) KKP Frista Yorhanita said that the acceleration of regional development was also supported by harvesting mechanization, the provision of washing plants, quality laboratories to optimizing sea water quality.

His party targets the resulting salt NaCl levels to reach more than 97 percent, in order to meet industry standards.

In addition to the technical aspect, the KKP has also designed an institutional scheme and a salt business partnership to ensure business sustainability.

PT Garam, BUMD and local cooperatives will be involved in professional and accountable regional management.

The KKP together with BPN and PLN are also preparing land legality and basic infrastructure.

"This is in line with the policy of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono in realizing the marine sector to be advanced, sustainable and just," he said.
