JAKARTA - The Indonesian Consumer Foundation (YLKI) has stated its readiness to be involved in efforts to control business actors who produce and trade rice products that are not in accordance with quality standards.

This statement was conveyed by the Executive Secretary of YLKI, Rio Priambodo, after the National Police Food Task Force revealed the practice of cheating mixed rice and will impose consumer protection sanctions on rice business actors.

"We are very open if we are involved in controlling business actors who produce and trade goods that are not in accordance with standards," Rio said in his statement, Thursday, July 24.

YLKI juga mendorong pemerintah untuk tidak hanya mengumumkan pelanggaran, tetapi menindak secara tegas para pelaku usaha yang terbukti berpenuh. Pihaknya meminta agar pemerintah melakukan monitoring atas sanksi yang telah dijatuhkan guna memastikan implementasinya di lapangan.

"YLKI asks the government to firmly impose sanctions on business actors and monitor these sanctions on the market," Rio continued.

Not only about law enforcement, YLKI also highlighted the importance of consumer education. The reason is, the public as buyers has the right to receive correct and clear information about the quality standards of rice circulating in the market.

"YLKI asks the government to openly convey what the standard rice consumers are like so that consumers understand," he said.

The National Police's Food Task Force confiscated a number of premium rice evidence which was allegedly not in accordance with quality standards with a total of 201 tons. This confiscation comes from the three rice producers, namely PT PIM, PT FS, and Toko SY.

Various supporting documents and activities, namely production documents, maintenance results documents, company legality, distribution permit documents, brand certificates, standard operating procedures for controlling process mismatch products were also secured.

The head of the National Police's Food Task Force, Brigadier General Helfi Assegaf explained, based on the investigation case, this rice producer will be subject to sanctions from the Consumer Protection Law and the Money Laundering Crime Law (TPPU).
