Total Close All Gas Stations In Indonesia, Management: Not The Impact Of The Pandemic, This Is Just A Strategy

JAKARTA - PT Total Oil Indonesia closed all public refueling stations (SPBU) in the country, after the company had been running the gas station business for 11 years since 2009. The closure of this business has been going on since the end of last year until 2021.

Then, what caused Total to decide to stop the gas station business in Indonesia?

Total Oil Indonesia's Marketing Manager Magda Naibaho said this decision was in line with Total's global strategy, in terms of active management of Total's portfolio. He denied that this closure was the result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This is purely a total strategy globally related to our active portfolio management, (not because of the COVID-19 pandemic)," he told VOI, Friday, May 7.

Magda said that his party had stopped operating gas stations from the end of last year. The exact date of these gas stations is different.

"PT Total Oil Indonesia has decided to give up our retail fuel business in Indonesia. This means all 18 gas stations in Jabotabek and Bandung," he said.

Even though it has closed all gas stations in Indonesia, Magda said Total will continue to serve the demand for lubricant products in Indonesia.

"We remain committed to continuing to provide superior products and services in Indonesia, including lubricants and other specialty products," he explained.

For your information, Total Oil Indonesia is a business unit of the French energy company Total in the downstream oil and gas sector, including the automotive lubricants business, in Indonesia. Total operates in 130 countries.

PT Total Oil Indonesia has been operating commercially in Indonesia since 2003, although in the upstream oil and gas sector, this French company has been operating in Indonesia since 1968 through Total E&P Indonesie.
