JAKARTA - The construction of the Trans Papua Road which was launched since the era of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is targeted to be completed during the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto.
Head of the Information Center (Kapuspen) of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Kristomei Sianturi said the challenge of Trans Papua construction has been going on for decades. The challenge is that there are problems with the terrain and the presence of Armed Criminal Groups (KKB) in the Papua region.
"Papua should not be (imaginated) like Java, access is also difficult. For the transportation of goods from place to place is also difficult. The road is not yet available, starting from scratch. Development (also) is from scratch. So if we think about it, well, how come it takes so long, occasionally try to go to Papua," Kristomei told reporters after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the TNI at the Ministry of Public Works office, Jakarta, Monday, July 21.
Unfortunately, Kristomei is reluctant to reveal the extent of the progress of Trans Papua's construction to date. However, he ensured, the construction of Trans Papua is targeted to be completed during the Prabowo Subianto leadership period.
"Yes, we must be optimistic (can be completed in the Prabowo era), if the planning is not optimistic, yes, it will not be completed. This must be optimistic first, then we ( thought about) how so that the work can be completed," he said.
Meanwhile, PT Hutama Karya (Persero) was appointed as the winner of the auction for the construction of the Trans Papua Road for the Jayapura 'Wamena segment of Mamberamo' Elelim in the Papua Province of the Mountains worth IDR 3.3 trillion by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR).
