JAKARTA - PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) has officially taken full control of the management of the Nias Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG) with a capacity of 25 MW.

The handover of operations and maintenance management (O&M) from PT Tripatra Engineers and Constructioners and PT PLN Indonesia Power Services (IPS) marks that PLTMG Nias is now completely under the responsibility of PLN NP.

Previously, since January 1, 2023, Nias PLTMG assets have been officially transferred to PLN NP in line with the transformation of PLN's Holding Subholding. However, the management of O&M is still run by Tripatra and IPS until it is finally handed over to a subsidiary of PLN NP, namely PLN Nusantara Power Services (NPS).

President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah, welcomed the assignment of NPS in ensuring the reliability of electricity supply in the Nias area, which relies heavily on this PLTMG.

Nias PLTMG is the backbone of electricity on Nias Island. With this management transition, we affirm the commitment of PLN NP to provide the best reliability, efficiency, and service for the people of Nias," said Ruly Firmansyah, Saturday, July 19.

This step is also strengthened by the readiness of the NP PLN technical team in responding to electricity challenges in the archipelago. The Operations Director of the NP PLN Gas Plant, Komang Parmita, emphasized the importance of a structured and sustainable transition process.

This handover is not just a transfer of management, but also a learning process and deepening of the system. We believe that NPS is able to continue the tradition of Nias' high performance PLTMG, especially since this generator has complex operational challenges, especially with specific MAN engine characteristics," explained Komang.

President Director of PLN Nusantara Power Services (NPS), Jakfar Sadiq, expressed his optimism for adding the 15th location in the NPS management portfolio.

"With Nias, we now manage 55 units of PLTMG machines in 15 locations. We are currently completing the installation of the PLTMG simulator which will be a means of training and increasing the competence of our operators. Our target is to continue the high EAF achievements and operational efficiency that have been achieved by Tripatra and IPS," said Jakfar.

Over the past six years, PLTMG Nias has contributed to supplying more than 60 percent of the electricity needs of the Nias electricity system. Built in 2017 and fully operational in 2019, the plant recorded EAF performance above 92 percent, making it a vital component in maintaining electrical reliability in the western region of Sumatra.

This handover is also a moment of appreciation for previous partners. Director of Asset Solution of PT Tripatra, Suraji Nugroho, expressed his gratitude for the support of all parties during the contract period.

Nias is our first generating project and is a witness to our commitment in presenting reliable electricity in remote areas. Thank you to PLN NP and all the teams that support this collaboration. We hope that collaboration can still be established in the future," said Suraji.

With the peak load of the Nias electricity system which reaches 40.7 MW and the system capable power of 70.5 MW, PLTMG Nias has a strategic role in supporting the stability and economic growth of Nias Island. PLN NP through NPS is ready to continue the legacy from the previous manager, as well as present a transformation towards a more modern and resilient generating system.
