US-Indonesia Reaches Trade Agreement, Trump: Benefits All Parties

JAKARTA - President of the United States (US) Donald Trump announced that his party had reached a trade agreement with Indonesia.

Through his official social media account, @realDonaldTrump, on Tuesday, July 15, Trump stated that the agreement is beneficial for all parties and has been signed directly with the President of Indonesia.

"Great deal, for tonight, just made with Indonesia. I dealt directly with their highest-respected President. DETAILS TO FOLLOW !!!! (A big deal, for everyone, has just been made with Indonesia. I deal directly with their highly respected President. DETAIL IMMEDIATELY FOLLOW!!!)" Trump wrote in his upload.

This statement was made in the midst of the negotiation process for the reciprocal tariff between Indonesia and the United States, which is targeted for completion on August 1, 2025.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto conveyed that the latest developments related to negotiations on the 32 percent import rate imposed by the President of the United States (US) Donald Trump on Indonesia were postponed.

According to Airlangga, currently Indonesia has obtained a postponement of the policy to complete the ongoing negotiations.

He also said that Indonesia was not subject to an additional 10 percent tariff imposed for BRICS member countries.

"So the first addition (10 percent for BRICS members) does not exist. The second time is we call it the Whale. So the postponement of implementation is to complete existing negotiations," he said, quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Monday, July 14.

Previously, Airlangga made a visit to the United States to continue negotiations on Trump's 32 percent import rate policy against Indonesia.

For information, based on a letter addressed to President Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia will be subject to a reciprocal rate of 32 percent starting August 1, 2025.

Airlangga conveyed that during his meeting with the US Trade Minister Howard Lutnick and the US Trade Representative Jamieson Total Indonesia agreed that Indonesia would be included in the advanced stage of the negotiation process.

"It agrees that what is proposed by Indonesia is a follow-up process. So this three weeks is expected to be finalized rather than fine tuning proposals, and fine tuning than what has been exchanged," he concluded.
