JAKARTA - Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/CEO Danantara Rosan Perkasa Roeslani hopes that more European companies will expand and invest in Indonesia, especially after Indonesia and the European Union agree on a comprehensive economic agreement (I-EU CEPA) which is targeted to be signed in September 2025.

Rosan said that the CEPA between Indonesia and the European Union would open up investment opportunities from 27 EU member countries, and provide access for Indonesia to enter the market of 27 EU member countries.

"In terms of investment, we also hope that the response will be more positive, because so far investment has been mostly made when entering Indonesia from the Netherlands, yes, but some investments have been made by French companies such as L'Oreal will expand again (to Indonesia, ed.)," said Investment Minister Rosan P. Roeslani in response to reporters' questions when met in Brussels, Belgium, quoted by Antara, Monday, July 14.

On the same occasion, Rosan continued that the I-EU CEPA is also expected to increase the trade between the two countries, all of which amounted to USD 30 billion to USD 60 billion. Then, for Rosan, the existence of a comprehensive economic agreement will also be a market alternative for Indonesia, especially in the midst of an uncertain geopolitical and geoeconomic situation.

"So, in our opinion, this is a positive thing, because in the midst of the increasing geopolitical and geoeconomic geoeconomics this is quite uncertain, but we are opening up markets, diversifying our markets, and we know, there are 27 countries that will ratify the agreement from the I-EU CEPA," said Rosan Roeslani.

President Prabowo announced that the CEPA Indonesia and the European Union negotiations were completed when a press conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the European Commission Office, Berlaymont Building, Brussels, Sunday. Indonesia and the European Union have negotiated to discuss the points of CEPA cooperation for approximately 10 years.

"Today we succeeded in making a breakthrough, after 10 years of negotiations, we completed a comprehensive economic agreement (CEPA), which is essentially a free market agreement. We have agreed on many, many agreements, which in essence we will accommodate each other's economic interests, and we find these interests benefit each other," President Prabowo said at a press conference.

The success was also welcomed positively by President von der Leyen and President of the European Council Ant Totalio Costa, two EU leaders met by President Prabowo in Brussels, Sunday. The two meetings are part of President Prabowo's overseas visit to Brussels since Saturday (12/7).

During his official visit to Brussels, President Prabowo was accompanied by several Ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, namely Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/CEO Danantara Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, then there was Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesian Ambassador to Belgium Andri Hadi.
