JAKARTA - PT Mitra Murni Perkasa (MMP), a subsidiary of MMS Solution and part of MMS Group Indonesia (MSGI), officially entered the Power On stage for high-grade nickel smelters in the Kariangau industrial area, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on June 26, 2025.

This achievement is an important milestone in the journey of the MMP as a nickel waste smelter built with 100 percent of domestic investment (PMDN), as well as strengthening Indonesia's position in the global supply chain of batteries and clean energy transitions.

Smelter MMP generates a capacity of up to 28,000 metric tons of high grade nickel niche per year, using Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF) 2 x 48 MVA technology equipped with modern converters.

Adaptive technology allows nickel smelting and refining processes to run more efficiently, energy-efficient, and low emission. This smelter operation is supported by electricity supply from PLN, including the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) scheme as a form of commitment to low-carbon energy.

At the Power On Nickel Smelter ceremony, Murni Perkasa, President Director of MMP, Adhi Dharma Mustopo, said that this moment was not just a technical process, but also a reflection of MMP's readiness to carry out high and sustainable standard operations.

"Today we are not only turning on the system, but also a symbol of the hopes, hard work, and great determination of the nation's children in encouraging national downstreaming and supporting the clean energy transition. This smelter is fully built 100% PMDN with the spirit of and for the country as evidence that Indonesia is able to build a globally competitive strategic infrastructure," he said, in a written statement, Saturday, June 28.

The MMSGI Nickel Smelter is part of MMSGI's diversification step in expanding its contribution to the nickel downstream sector. The presence of the MMP reinforces the group's commitment to support the sustainable use of domestic resources and contributes to the growth of the battery ecosystem for electric vehicles.

The ESG principle is integrated into this project, ranging from the use of low-emission technology, environmental management, organizational governance of companies with standard IFC Performance Standards, to absorption and development of the nation's children's labor. MMP targets up to 1,000 jobs. In addition, MMP develops a sustainable training program to produce competent and environmentally aware human resources.

In terms of safety and operations, the MMP implements a strict and periodic evaluation-based Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) system. All operational activities are designed to meet global industrial standards while still considering social and environmental aspects around the area of operation.

This 'Power On' not only marks the start of technical operations. More than that, Power On is also the first step in our long-term commitment. MMP is ready to contribute to strengthening Indonesia's nickel downstream and bringing social-economic benefits to the community, especially in East Kalimantan and Indonesia at large," explained Adhi.

As part of the MSSGI business group, the MMP will continue to strengthen synergies in the development of the national mineral and energy value chain. With competitive technology, sustainable governance, the MMP comes as a real representation of the downstreaming that has an impact and is completely domestic strength-based.
