JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir revealed the reasons behind the construction of the Sanur and Bali International Hospital Special Economic Zones (SEZ).

One of them is because of the large costs incurred by the public for treatment abroad.

Erick said that if it is calculated that two million people who seek treatment abroad spend Rp150 trillion per year.

"We can see 2 million Indonesians seeking treatment abroad. This spends approximately IDR 150 trillion per year", he said at the inauguration of the Sanur and BIH SEZs quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Wednesday, June 25.

According to Erick, health independence is one of the challenges that Indonesia will face in the future. Therefore, the Ministry of SOEs carries out an assignment from the president to develop the Sanur Health SEZ in Bali.

Furthermore, Erick said the Red and White Cabinet helped build the Sanur Health SEZ. Starting from permits by the coordinating ministry, the procurement of doctors and medical equipment by the Minister of Health, the exploration of surrounding tourism areas by the Minister of Tourism, as well as the potential investment by the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming.

"Of course this is none other than the result of the collaboration between the Red and White Cabinet," he said.

Erick said that the Sanur SEZ, which is operated by SOEs, will also be under the auspices of the Anagata Nusantara Power Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara).

"Later, with the presence of Danantara, he will focus operationally and invest in continuing with this special economic zone that has been built. And we from the Ministry of SOEs will also continue to carry out supervision and assignments," he said.
