JAKARTA - The Jombang Regency Government (Pemkab) made the first shipment of 10 tons of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) or alternative fuel from waste processing to PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) Tuban Factory. RDF produced at the Banjardowo Final Processing Site (TPA), Kabuh District, Jombang Regency, East Java will then be used as fuel for coal substitution in the cement production process at the Tuban Factory.
The inaugural delivery of RDF to the Tuban Factory GIS was marked by a procession of breaking a jug by the Regent of Jombang, Warsubi and Project Management Sr Officer of SIG, Ita Sadono in front of a RDF truck in the Banjardowo TPA area, Jombang on Monday, May 19.
SIG's Corporate Secretary, Vita Mahreyni, said that the RDF product from Jombang Regency will increase the portion of the use of alternative fuels in the cement production process at the Tuban Factory GIS. The first shipment, which is still a trial, will be followed up with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SIG and the Jombang Regency Government.
Vita Mahreyni added that previously the Tuban Factory GIS had used RDF as a coal substitution originating from several regions in East Java including Gresik Regency, Bangkalan Regency, Ponorogo Regency, and Pasuruan Industrial Estate Rembang (PIER) in Pasuruan Regency.
The use of RDF is a form of GIS concern to help local governments create a healthier environment for the community. On the other hand, the use of RDF also helps companies get alternative fuel for coal substitution in the production process and supports the achievement of carbon emission reduction targets," said Vita Mahreyni.
The Regent of Jombang, Warsubi expressed his appreciation for the support of GIS which is ready to accommodate and become an offtaker of RDF from the Banjardowo TPA, Jombang with the help of a waste sorting and processing machine from the Emission Reduction In Cities from Germany through the Ministry of Public Works to produce RDFs with economic value.
The newly sent production of RDF as much as 10 tons is still relatively small, because GIS is ready to accommodate 50 tons of RDF per day, or whatever the Banjardowo TPA is able to produce. We hope that production capacity can increase over time. This collaboration with GIS brings new hope for the Jombang Regency Government to solve the growing waste problem, with the hope of increasing RDF production in a sustainable and gradual manner overcoming the waste problem in Jombang Regency," said Warsubi.

Head of the Jombang Regency Environment Agency (LH), Miftahul Ulum added, with a population of 1.4 million people, the potential for waste in Jombang reaches 530 tons per day. So far, the waste has been taken, transported, processed, sorted and the rest dumped into landfill. Alhamdulillah, after cooperation with GIS, the way we process waste has changed. After we process and pilah, garbage that did not have high economic value that was once thrown into landfill, now we process it into RDF," said Miftahul Ulum.
Currently, the Banjardowo TPA is capable of producing 6 10 tons of RDF per day, which is processed from 30 40 tons of waste. In the future, the production volume of this RDF will gradually continue to be increased so that the economic value obtained by the Jombang Regency Government will also increase.
"We hope that the RDF sent has good quality, so that the waste in Jombang does not accumulate in the TPA, even those that have been mounting for decades can be processed into RDF," said Miftahul Ulum.
