Carry Out Prabowo's Order, KKP Will Build 100 Red And White Fishing Villages This Year

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is capturing coastal villages and potential cultivation villages as locations for the Red and White Fisherman Village program.

The program aims to encourage coastal villages to be more productive, integrate and have competitiveness, such as in Samber 'Binyeri Village, Biak Numfor Regency, Papua.

"This is a transformation program from Modern Fisherman Village initiated by Minister Trenggono to improve fishermen's welfare. We must ensure that the location meets the requirements and criteria, especially land problems," said Expert Staff of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries for Economic, Social and Cultural Affairs Trian Yunanda as quoted from his written statement, Monday, May 26.

He said the implementation of the Merah Putih Fisherman Village involved local governments to capture potential locations. This is to ensure that the implementation of the program runs optimally with the support of the local government and the local community.

Trian explained, in the early stages of the KKP targeting the construction of 100 Red and White Fishermen's Villages. The criteria are that the majority of the population works as fishermen / fish cultivators more than 80 percent, availability and status of clear and clean land for the construction of production facilities of more than 1 hectare, has the potential for fish resources, fish cultivation and marine tourism that can be developed and integrated with the Red and White Village Cooperative.

"As of May 27, we are still receiving a proposal to submit the Kampung Fisherman Merah Putih program from the marine and fisheries service. This program is transparent and accessible to local governments for all regions in Indonesia," he said.

Later, the Red and White Fishermen's Village Program will encourage sustainable fisheries community productivity and change the face of fishing villages and traditional cultivators to be more organized and modern.

At the selected location, he said, the KKP would build a number of facilities, such as docks, frozen warehouses, training centers, ice factories, culinary centers, viewing towers, ship docking, fish auction venues along with drainage and IPAL to office buildings.

"We want to continue the success of transforming the face of fishing villages like in Biak, Papua. Later this program will be integrated with the Red and White Village Cooperative as the backbone and will be in the central position of all economic activities," he said.

Furthermore, Trian said, recently the KKP has also conducted a survey of prospective locations in Batam, Riau Islands, to be precise, Tua Bagan Village, Tanjung Banon and Behind Padang. This fishing village is above sea level.

"We will review the results of the location survey in the Batam fishing village. We have found many fishing villages above sea level, what is possible from the side of the rules, so that we can build," he explained.

The Red and White Fishermen's Village Program is a direct direction from President Prabowo Subianto to increase productivity and welfare of coastal communities. Overall, the government is targeting the development of 1,100 villages.
