The progress of the dam, which has an inundation area of 587.61 hectares, has now reached 75.28 percent. The dam work was carried out through Waskita Karya-Bumi Indah Operational Cooperation (KSO).

"Currently, the realization of the construction has reached 75.28 percent," said Waskita Karya Operations Director II Dhetik Ariyanto in a written statement, Thursday, May 8.

Detik said the project would support the target of food self-sufficiency, energy and water security as the foundation in building the nation's independence.

"The Mbay Dam will be able to supply irrigation water to an area of 6,240 hectares. So it is hoped that agricultural production in the Nakegeo Regency area, especially in Rendubutowe Village, can increase," he said.

In terms of energy and water security, Dhetik said, the dam supports the potential for Solar Power Plants (PLTS) of up to 117.5 Megawatts (MW).

Then it can provide raw water services of 205 liters per second.

The project is also designed to reduce flooding in a downstream area of 3,200 hectares.

In terms of development, said Dhetik, Waskita also pays attention to sustainable environmental management. So, he continued, the project is believed to have a direct impact on the economy and the welfare of the people there.

"Moreover, the Mbay Dam is also designed as a new tourist destination on Flores Island," he said.

According to Dhetik, the company is committed to completing the construction of the Mbay Dam on time and quality.

Moreover, he continued, the water infrastructure project worth IDR 1.47 trillion is targeted for completion in 2026.

"In the future, Waskita will continue to build various infrastructures to encourage economic development and equity throughout Indonesia," he concluded.

To note, the Mbay Dam is one of the 77 National Strategic Projects (PSN) regulated in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 12 of 2025 concerning the National Long Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025-2029.

Apart from Mbay, there are five Waskita Karya dams that are included in the list of 77 PSN, namely the Jragung Dam, Bener, Tiga Dihaji, Karangnongko and Cibeet.
