Businessman And Truck Driver Demo Operational Restrictions, Minister Of Transportation Dudy Purwangandhi Says This

JAKARTA - Entrepreneurs and drivers held demonstrations to protest against government policies related to restrictions on the operation of goods transport trucks during the Lebaran 2025 holiday period.

Responding to this, the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, emphasized that there is no prohibition for goods transport trucks to operate during the Lebaran 2025 homecoming period.

Furthermore, Dudy said, the government only regulates operational restrictions on goods transportation.

The goal is to ensure safety and security during the Eid transportation period.

"On the other hand, the government imposes operational restrictions to ensure safety, security, order, and smooth homecoming and backflow," he said in an official statement, Friday, March 21.

Dudy said the restrictions were placed on goods cars with axes 3 or more, goods cars with attached trains, traditional trains, and goods cars carrying excavated products, mines, as well as building materials.

Then related to loading procedures, continued Dudy, transportation power and load, vehicle dimensions, and goods transport documents must also meet technical and roadworthy requirements in accordance with statutory provisions.

Regarding the duration of the restrictions that are considered too long, continued Dudy, the restrictions are designed to reach a balance between the flow of homecoming and the distribution of goods, as well as prioritizing safety on the highway.

"The government seeks to maintain a balance between traffic arrangements during the homecoming period and support the smooth distribution of goods, as well as provide incentives to ease the cost burden for logistics industry players," said Dudy.

Dudy also appreciated PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) for providing discounts of up to 60 percent on the service bill for the accumulation of goods and containers during the period of restriction on the transportation of goods on the homecoming flow and back to Lebaran 2025.

This discount is valid from March 24 to April 8, 2025, as a form of support for government policies and to ease costs for logistics business actors affected by truck operational restrictions.
