JAKARTA - The European Union (EU) and the Agence franchise de competelopement (AFD) signed a grant management cooperation agreement for the Indonesian government with a total grant of 7 million euros or equivalent to Rp123.55 billion (exchange rate of Rp17,650) to support a sustainable and proof-based marine management program.

As for the total grant, to fund the activities of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) of 3.55 million euros and the rest to fund the activities of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) worth 3.45 million euros.

"The total EU grant, 3.55 million euros will fund activities led by the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), while 3.45 million euros will finance initiatives by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)," he explained in an official statement from the Directorate General of Risk Management and Financing (DJPPR) of the Ministry of Finance, Thursday, March 6.

Meanwhile, this EU grant is part of a wider effort by the European Team under the Global Gateway initiative to advance sustainable marine management, in addition to AFD loans of 187.6 million euros.

This European Union funding complements two previously signed AFD loans, namely, the Eco Fishing Port Project (KKP) of 98.6 million euros to modernize four Indonesian fishing ports.

Furthermore, the Multi-Reseach Vehicle (MRV/KrisNa) (BRIN) amounted to 89 million US dollars to obtain two sophisticated multidisciplinary research vessels.
