JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) ensures that fish stocks for consumption during Ramadan until Eid are safe.
Based on the analysis of the need for consumption of fish protein intake during fasting, the need for fish consumption is estimated to reach 1.4 million tons, an increase of 7.3 percent compared to February 2025.
"Meanwhile, ahead of Eid al-Fitr, the total fish supply has reached 2.09 million tons, taking into account the pattern of seasons, arrests and production seasons," said Director General of Strengthening Competitiveness for Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) KKP Budi Sulistiyo at a press conference on Fish Stock Availability during Ramadan and Eid 1446 Hijriah at the KKP office, Jakarta, Wednesday, March 5.
Budi explained, from the results of the KKP calculation, the fish stock increased 49.6 percent compared to February. The increase was due to the large number of ships that would land on D-3 ahead of Eid Al-Fitr 1446 Hijri.
According to him, the sailors will return home to celebrate Lebaran so that the catch will be more. Thus, the results of fishing in March are projected to reach 42,271 tons.
"Based on this data, the KKP believes that the supply of fish is sufficient and safe to meet the needs of the community during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr," he said.
In addition, the KKP also ensures that the price of fish during this fasting month will remain stable. Budi said that his party had monitored 250 cold storage throughout Indonesia.
As of March 4, 2025, the average price of fish in all commodities showed an increase of 5.5 percent. In detail, the price of Cakalang is in the range of Rp. 23,000 per kilogram (kg), the average tuna is sold for Rp. 18,000 per kg and Tongkol is Rp. 19,000 per kg.
Then, Kembung Rp. 30,000 per kg, Tenggiri Rp. 50,000 per kg, Bawal at Rp. 45,000 per kg and Makarel at Rp. 18,000 per kg.
"Overall, prices ahead of Lebaran remain affordable and stable," he said.
In addition, Budi said, his party is implementing an awareness cost management system to ensure the distribution of fish to all regions in Indonesia runs smoothly.

According to Budi, this was done to ensure the alerting of fish stocks, logistical information and optimization of the existing cold storage occupancy.
Not only that, KKP is also working with a number of logistics service actors based on cold containers and other transport ships to send fish supplies to all regions.
KKP is also working with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Persero.
"We are working with PT KAI through a railway network to deliver to the local market and final consumers," explained Budi.
