JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) ensures that fish stocks and distribution are not affected by the ongoing flood conditions.

The Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) KKP Budi Sulistiyo said that his party would check locations affected by flooding and monitor whether there was infrastructure from storage, ports or cultivation that was affected.

"This may be part of strengthening or the steps we have to take are also related to natural conditions. Indeed, there are several places where the flood is quite massive. Is there a cold storage place, if there is a cold storage, it will be disrupted by the distribution so far. We will update the condition there," Budi said at a press conference on the Availability of Fish Stock during Ramadan and Eid 1446 Hijriah at the KKP office, Jakarta, Wednesday, March 5.

According to Budi, the recent flood locations are mostly in residential complexes and not storage areas for fishery products. So, he said, so far the distribution for fishery products has not been disrupted.

"So far it is still safe. (Distribution) is also safe because, right, the average flood location is in residential complexes and so on. However, those in Pantura are also being monitored. If today's conditions are still safe, they are still stable," he concluded.

Previously, the Jabodetabek area itself was hit by heavy rains which resulted in flooding at a number of points. Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati said extreme weather in Jabodetabek would still last until next week.

This was revealed by Dwikorita in the Jabodetabek flood control coordination meeting (Rakor) led by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno.

"For the potential in the next week, because the phenomenon will continue even though it will decrease for a while, but then it seems that the peak (rain) is on March 11", said Dwikorita, Tuesday, March 4.

Seeing the potential for heavy rain that will continue in the next few days, the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto said the government would carry out weather modification operations (OMC) until Saturday, March 8.

"BNPB will carry out this weather modification operation up to 8 (March). Hopefully with this OMC, at least we will be able to reduce the rain for the days ahead," he said.

Suharyanto added that his party had asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to continue OMC in its area, as has been done from the 2025 new year to last February.

Then, BNPB coordinated with the West Java Provincial Government, especially Bogor Regency, to send a team to deal with landslides and repair broken bridges.

"Then there are 7 damaged infrastructures, for example yesterday Bogor Regency. So, for the short term that can be implemented immediately is using a bailey bridge," he explained.

Meanwhile, in Bekasi City, 7 sub-districts were recorded to be affected by flooding up to a height of 3 meters and flooding in Bekasi Regency hit six sub-districts of up to 1.5 meters.

"Bekasi City is a bit severe. Maybe in the near future we ourselves will go there. Today a team will also send it to Bekasi City to see and coordinate directly with the Bekasi Mayor regarding the steps that must be taken," he concluded.
