JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman conducted a surprise inspection (sidak) to two market locations, namely Kramat Jati Main Market and Cipinang Rice Main Market, East Jakarta, ensuring food prices are stable and supply is safe during Ramadan.

"We want to ensure that people can fast in peace, without having to worry about food prices. We monitor the price and distribution so that no one plays a price," said the Minister of Agriculture during a dialogue with traders at the Kramat Jati Main Market, Jakarta, Saturday.

The Minister of Agriculture said that inspections were carried out to ensure the availability of foodstuffs for the community remained safe, prices stabilized, and no commodities were sold beyond the highest retail price (HET).

He said that none of the food commodities sold in the market exceeded the price set by the government.

Meanwhile, HET has a number of foods determined by the government, such as IDR 12,500 per kilogram (kg) of SPHP rice, IDR 40,000 per kg of garlic, IDR 18,500 per kg of sugar consumption, IDR 15,700 per liter of Oil, and IDR 40 per kg of broiler.

Even so, Amran did not mention in detail the prices sold in the market.

He emphasized that the government is working optimally so that people can observe fasting in peace, without being overshadowed by concerns about the increase in food prices that often occur ahead of Ramadan.

During the inspection, the Minister of Agriculture directly observed various strategic commodities such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, meat, eggs, and onions.

He also talked with traders to find out stock conditions and price trends in the market. From the results of monitoring, the majority of the prices of basic commodities are still within reasonable limits, although there are several commodities that have increased slightly.

The Minister of Agriculture emphasized that the government will not hesitate to take firm steps if there are indications of price speculation that is detrimental to society.

"We don't want anyone to take advantage of the momentum of Ramadan to take advantage of it. If anyone is proven to be playing a price and harming the community, we will take firm action," he said.

In addition, the Minister of Agriculture also ensured that the Ministry of Agriculture would continue to synergize with related ministries, the National Food Agency, food SOEs, and local governments in maintaining the smooth distribution of food.

The government has also anticipated a potential price spike by intensifying cheap market operations in various regions, so that people can get basic commodities at a more affordable price.

The Minister of Agriculture emphasized that efforts to maintain food stability were not only carried out during Ramadan, but was a sustainable commitment to ensure the welfare of farmers and price affordability for the community.

"We want this Ramadan to be a month full of blessings for all. The government is here to ensure that food availability is sufficient, prices remain stable, and there are no speculators that harm the people. God willing, with hard work together, we can face food challenges well," said the Minister of Agriculture.

This inspection is clear evidence that in the midst of the atmosphere of Ramadan, the Ministry of Agriculture continues to work hard to ensure food stability throughout Indonesia.

With the synergy between the central government, regions, and food businesses, it is hoped that the community can perform fasting more comfortably and calmly.
